Aim of assessment
This assessment provides the student with the opportunity to critically reflect on the application of leadership styles in clinical practice.

Critical Reflection Topic:
Discuss the relationship between leadership and patient safety and quality. Critically reflect on how your own leadership style will contribute to influencing and promoting a culture of quality and safety in clinical practice.

The critical reflection essay requires:
A definition of patient safety and quality
A discussion of the relationship between leadership and patient safety in clinical practice
A concise description of your own leadership style and its essential characteristics.
Critical reflection on how, why, when and where, you could apply your leadership style to promote patient safety and quality in clinical practice as a new graduate.

Student Directions:
Adequately and appropriately use at least five (5) recent (i.e. from 2009) peer reviewed, academic, research /evidence-based journal articles, (preferably from nursing management and leadership journals) to adequately support critical discussion points. The quality of your critical discussion will depend largely on the appropriateness and quality of references and how well these are used to provide evidence and support for that discussion.

In the construction of your written work do not use non-academic literature. Further, it is not acceptable to copy any information from other sources, including Websites or other electronic sources, other students, books, journals, etc., and present it as your own work.

References must be: in the APA style, adequately and correctly given, both in text and in the final reference list. This reference guide is based on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition) (American Psychological Association, 2010). Use of non-academic literature is not acceptable. Further, it is not acceptable to copy any information from other sources, including Websites or other electronic sources, other students, books, journals, etc., and present it as your own work.

The work is to conform to the conventions of academic writing, with logical flow of ideas, clarity and conciseness of expression, non- discriminatory use of language, and consistently accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence and paragraph construction.
